Counselling in the paddock ~

Counselling in the paddock, also known as nature-based therapy, is an outdoor therapeutic approach that combines traditional counselling with the grounding, calming environment of nature. It may involve just sitting outside the therapy hut, or a calming walk and talk session combining movement and orienting to the environment.

How it works.

Nervous System Regulation: The open air and close proximity to trees and birds encourage mind-body connection, helping to reduce stress, anxiety, and feelings of intense scrutiny

Reduced Pressure: Walking side-by-side or sitting in an open landscape removes the formal, intense focus often felt across a desk in a closed room

Holistic Healing: Sessions integrate mindfulness, somatic awareness, and gentle talking therapy to support nervous system reset and personal growth

Trauma Informed: A gentle person centred approach, where we work at your pace

Counselling in nature can encourage clients to:

  • develop healthy coping skills and focus

  • improve self-esteem and confidence

  • identify and clarify issues and concerns

  • increase communication skills

  • share in a safe nurturing environment

  • improve motor skills and physical co-ordination

  • identify blocks to emotional expression and personal growth

  • help uncover patterns and behaviours.
